OTC hearing instruments are intended for people with mild to moderate hearing loss, but this requires the consumer to decide how advanced their hearing loss is. Because hearing ability is entirely subjective, hearing loss often goes unnoticed until it’s beyond the mild to moderate stage. A diagnostic hearing test can determine the degree of hearing loss and sometimes the type and cause of hearing loss.
