 There are two main types of hearing aids, and both are available in a variety of styles. In-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids are sometimes called “invisible hearing aids” because they can hardly be seen, if at all. They are usually custom fit from an impression of the ear canal made by a hearing specialist and available in a variety of skin tones to match the outer ear. Behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids are worn above the outer ear, with tubes running into the ear canal for sound. The tubes are either connected to an earmold that fits snugly into the ear canal or to a dome-style earpiece that also fits inside the ear canal but allows for more ventilation and natural sound.
