Auditory neuropathy is a hearing condition that affects people of all ages. Auditory neuropathy is thought to play an important role in hearing loss and deafness. People with auditory neuropathy constantly have a hard time understanding speech clearly. There are several potential causes of auditory neuropathy, including damage to the inner hair cells or the auditory nerve, both of which help transmit sound information to the brain.
